Everything you need to know about the Whitehorse City Council HomeCycle program
Whitehorse Council has partnered up with SCRgroup to deliver the HomeCycle program to the Whitehorse community.
HomeCycle is a free bookable service that gives residents the opportunity to donate reusable goods without leaving the comfort of their home. Donating items via this service will help divert waste from landfill and support local charities and relief organisations.
HomeCycle is a free at-home service, where Whitehorse residents can donate reusable household items in good condition.
Step 1 – Book a collection using this website by clicking ‘Book your HomeCycle Collection’, or over the phone by calling (03) 9386 8702
Step 2 – Only place accepted items out. Leave items outside in a safe and accessible spot near your front door the night before your collection day
Step 3 – The accepted items will be collected on your booked collection day and a SMS notification will be sent once items are collected.
Separate items into the following categories and place them in a bag or cardboard box beside your front door in a safe and accessible spot the night before your collection day.
- 1. Clothing, shoes and fashion accessories
- 2. Bric-a-brac
- 3. Small household electronic items
- 4. Bulky items placed separately to the side
Items collected through the HomeCycle program are donated to local charities and relief organisations.
- Large and small furniture are donated to West Welcome Wagon
- Baby prams are donated to the Big Group Hug
- Bikes are donated to Brainwave Australia
- Clothing and bric-a-brac are donated via SCRgroup to communities around the world that need them most
- Broken plastics or furniture, not suitable for reuse, are taken to ECO 1 Waste management
- Electrical items are donated to West Welcome Wagon
- Items not fit for reuse such as e-waste, soft plastics and cardboard (boxes used for collection) will be recycled via local recycling partners ECO 1 Waste management and SIMS Metal management
SCRgroup is a registered Australian company, that work with charities and social enterprises to provide various collection and recycling programs.
Torn materials and uniforms are acceptable. SCRgroup has partnered up with Worn Up, an Australian-based recycling company that converts textile fibres into building materials and furniture.
Residents can book using this website by clicking ‘Book your HomeCycle Collection’, or over the phone by calling (03) 9386 8702, and select from designated collection days in your area.
We recommend residents place items out for pick-up the night before collection beside their front door, ready for pick up the next day. Bookings will close each Monday for the Wednesday collection. Large Furniture bookings are monthly and close on Tuesday for a Thursday collection.
You can book up to 8 items to be collected and no larger than 2 cubic metres.
The program is limited to one pick-up per household.
The program is available till June 2023, with bookings available weekly for clothing, homewares and small household items. Collections that include large furniture items in good condition will occur at the end of the month.
